Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Manager Role
Rock Ridge Farming is a family-owned and operated enterprise, situated high in the picturesque Atherton Tablelands in Far North Queensland. With a proud history in farming and strong ties to our community, we believe safety is not just about compliance but about protecting our people and supporting our farms.
We are seeking someone who is genuinely passionate about Workplace Health and Safety who can step into this role with confidence, curiosity and a genuine care for people. In this role you will be hands-on across all areas of our operations – from the office to the pack sheds to the paddock - working alongside a team who values safety, teamwork and open communication.
This is a diverse position, combining WHS responsibilities with broader operational support, giving you the chance to be involved not only in safety tasks but also in farm visits, collecting and reviewing operational data and supporting day to day farming activities.
This is a full-time permanent position offering between 38 to 44 hours a week (as preferred by the candidate) with a pay rate starting from $38 per hour, depending on skills and experience. While the role is based off full time hours, we can offer flexibility for the right person.
The ideal candidate will be organised, approachable and ready to step into a role with room to grow, developing leadership skills while helping shape and strengthen the safety and operational culture across our business.
What You’ll Be Doing:
This role combines routine WHS responsibilities while also leading larger projects that will help shape the future of our operations.
Leading and overseeing the day-to-day WHS management of our farming operations under the guidance of our Operations Supervisor.
Conducting and carrying out regular site audits and driving continuous improvement across all areas.
Leading and reporting on key WHS projects, including:
Measurement and Analysis of Hazardous Substances Exposure using existing systems.
Fit Testing Programs
Reviewing and enhancing our Chemical Inventory Management System
Implementing and rolling out a new Fuel Monitoring System
Overseeing the setup and successful rollout of our WHS online system
Supporting investigations, preparing and reporting outcomes, and helping build systems that make safety clear, practical and effective for everyone.
Essential Skills:
The ideal candidate will be proactive, approachable and confident in managing daily responsibilities while keeping sight of bigger picture projects and long-term goals.
We are looking for someone who has:
Solid Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) knowledge and experience.
Confidence with spreadsheets and data management.
Strong organisational skills with project management skills – with the ability to juggle competing priorities and seeing things through.
Leadership potential with the readiness to step into managing and leading a WHS support person in the near future.
Excellent written and verbal communication, you can explain things clearly and keep people engaged.
A current driver’s license as you’ll be required to travel between farms at times.
Desired Skills:
While not essential, the following skills and experience would be an advantage and help you settle into the role quickly:
Experience with Freshcare, Sedex, or Fair Farms compliance.
A background in farming, agriculture, or agronomy.
Advanced spreadsheet skills (we love a good, clean system!).
Why You’ll Love This Role
This is a role with real variety and impact, you’ll be part of shaping how we work, keeping our teams safe, and supporting exciting projects that improve the way we farm. You’ll have the support of a close-knit management team who value your input and give you the space to make the role your own. If you’re someone who likes to solve problems, keep things organised and genuinely cares about people’s safety and wellbeing, you’ll thrive here.
