About This Opportunity

The Event Sales Manager is responsible for the efficient and effective management of the event sales operation of UQ Venues. This includes oversight of activities to maximise sales, coordinate room utilisation and management of marketing to ensure the growth and financial success of Customs House, Patina at Customs House, Patina at Alumni Court, the Terrace Room and UQ Brisbane City.

This critical role also assists the Director in the management and development of UQ Venues to maintain the reputation of UQ as some of Brisbane's premier function venues, and UQ Brisbane City as a prominent venue within UQ as of one of Australia's top 50 ranked universities.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Drive event sales growth through proactive business development, marketing initiatives, and strong client relationship management.
  • Lead and mentor the sales and events team to deliver seamless, high-quality experiences across diverse events.
  • Oversee marketing, promotions, trade shows and digital campaigns to maximise visibility and engagement.
  • Manage reporting and analysis of sales performance, providing insights and recommendations for improvement.
  • Strengthen partnerships with UQ stakeholders, corporate clients, and the wedding sector, ensuring alignment with UQ Venues' strategic goals.
  • Handle high-end event enquiries, site inspections, client liaison and business sales leads.
  • Maintain operational systems (including event management software and online booking platforms) processes, and supplier relationships to support efficient sales and event delivery.

About You

You'll be an experienced Event Sales Manager with a strong background in venue-based events, ideally from hotels, heritage venues, or dedicated event spaces. Confident in managing the full lifecycle of events, from enquiries and proposals, through to delivery. You'll be a hands-on leader who thrives in dynamic environments and can work seamlessly across multiple sites.

To succeed, you will bring:

  • Qualifications and training equivalent to an undergraduate degree in event management; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training
  • Proven leadership skills with experience managing high-performing teams.
  • Strong sales ability and a track record of attracting and converting new business.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to perform under pressure.
  • A client-focused approach, with a commitment to professionalism and service excellence.

This is a unique opportunity to manage and promote some of Brisbane's most iconic venues, with flexibility, variety, and the chance to deliver events that reflect the prestige of UQ.
