The Clinical Lead, Specialist Lung Cancer Nurses position is based in our Milton office.
About the role
Lung Foundation Australia is seeking an experienced and passionate Clinical Lead – Specialist Lung Cancer Nurses to lead, grow and support our national network of Specialist Lung Cancer Nurses. This is a unique opportunity to shape the delivery of nurse-led support for people affected by lung cancer and ensure the highest standard of care across Australia.
Reporting to the Chief Nurse, this pivotal role provides clinical leadership, service guidance, and operational oversight for our face-to-face and telehealth-based nursing services. You’ll manage program funding agreements with federal and state health departments, support the recruitment and onboarding of SLCNs, and lead strategic engagement with hospitals and health services.
You’ll also play a key leadership role in the Australia and New Zealand Lung Cancer Nurses Forum (ANZ-LCNF) - the peak body and professional community of practice for lung cancer nurses in the region.
Key responsibilities include:
- Program Management: Oversee national SLCN programs, ensure delivery against funding agreements, lead program reporting and evaluation, and manage budgets and contracts.
- Leadership & Support: Provide mentorship to SLCNs across Australia, supporting service implementation, role development and referral pathway mapping.
- Education & Community of Practice: Chair ANZ-LCNF and national SLCN Communities of Practice; deliver professional development activities and in-service training.
- Resource & Service Development: Contribute to development of patient and professional resources, support integration of telehealth services, and identify new placement opportunities.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with health services, funders, clinicians, and partner organisations to promote the SLCN program and improve care outcomes.
- Advocacy & Awareness: Represent the voice of lung cancer nursing in policy discussions, at conferences, and in external forums in collaboration with Lung Foundation Australia’s policy and marketing teams.
About you
We’re looking for a highly skilled and motivated oncology nurse with strong leadership and project management experience who is passionate about improving lung cancer care and outcomes.
Essential skills and attributes include:
- Registered Nurse with a minimum 5 years’ experience in oncology nursing and significant experience in lung cancer care.
- Advanced knowledge of lung cancer and the optimal care pathway.
- Proven leadership and mentorship skills within nursing or clinical teams.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
- Demonstrated experience managing health programs, including contract and budget oversight.
- Skilled in data collection, analysis and reporting to support program improvement.
- Ability to develop educational and promotional materials and deliver in-service education.
- Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work autonomously.
- Comfortable using digital tools, including Microsoft Office and CRM systems (Salesforce highly regarded).
