About the Role
This senior finance leadership role is pivotal in driving both operational and strategic outcomes within a global, high-growth business. Acting as the 2IC to the CFO, you will manage financial operations while also taking ownership of financial planning, analysis, and strategy. This includes partnering with the CFO and COO to provide insights that guide decision-making across the organisation.

You will be instrumental in shaping financial performance, optimising reporting processes, and supporting the company’s growth trajectory, with clear potential to step into a CFO role in the next 12-24 months.

  • Senior Commercial Finance Manager – $150-180k + Super
  • Location: Sydney HQ – Hybrid
  • Working Hours: Full-time with flexible availability

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage bookkeeping activities with an external bookkeeping firm using Xero and Shopify integrations
  • Review the process of payroll and superannuation obligations on a weekly basis with an external accounting firm
  • Oversee daily bank rec, accounts payable and receivable functions, ensuring accurate reconciliations
  • Prepare monthly management accounts, financial statements, and cashflow reports
  • Perform month-end tasks including accrual, reversal, manual journal posting, fixed asset register, amortisation, depreciation, and MTM, QTQ variance analysis.
  • Partner directly with the CFO/COO to deliver robust budgeting, forecasting, and FP&A activities, including variance analysis and scenario modelling.
  • Provide strategic insights to support commercial decisions, growth initiatives, and operational improvements.
  • Present financial analysis and strategic recommendations to the senior leadership team and board.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting & tax regulations across Australia (head quarter), the US, Europe, and Asia
  • Support internal and external audits, and coordinate statutory reporting requirements
  • Liaise with external advisors on complex tax matters
  • Monitor and report on international sales channels, FX exposure, and payment flows
  • Implement and enhance internal controls, systems, and reporting efficiencies
  • Reporting directly to the CFO, you will prepare and present regular management and financial briefings to the senior leadership team.
  • Act as the finance escalation point and ensure effective communication with CFO/COO on critical matters.

About You

  • 6-8 years of experience in accounting or finance in a fast-growing or established company.
  • CA or CPA qualified, with experience in Big 4 preferred. An ambitious and high performer.
  • Experience in multi-jurisdiction accounting and tax environments is highly desirable
  • Demonstrated experience in accounting, financial analysis, planning, and strategy, preferably in retail, FMCG, consumer goods, or ecommerce.
  • Strong working knowledge of Xero, Shopify and cloud-based finance tools
  • Able to operate independently and flexibly in a fast-paced setting
  • Able to proactively keep the finance team in the loop and escalate issue in a timely manner to senior management
  • A go-getter and have ambition to move up and take more responsibility as the role and business needs evolve
  • A motivated leader, with ambition to grow into CFO-level responsibilities.
  • Comfortable working with teams and stakeholders across global time zones
  • Willing to pivot to different priorities quickly and willing to learn new skills under the mentorship of a young, successful, mature and passionate CFO/COO
  • High attention to detail, with strong commercial and analytical acumen
  • Excellent stakeholder management, with proven ability to work closely with senior executives
  • Able to drive to the warehouse as required
  • Must have full working rights in Australia – PR, citizenship or long-term work visa required
