Salary: $88090 - $94788 + Superannuation
Women’s and Girls Emergency Centre Incorporated are looking for an experienced Community Engagement Officer for an immediate start. This position is a full-time ongoing position, working 38 hours per week based in Redfern, NSW.
Women’s and Girls’ Emergency Centre (WAGEC) is a non-government, not-for-profit charitable organisation. We deliver a range of crisis and medium-term accommodation and support services to women, children, young people, and families who are experiencing, or at risk of homelessness and/or domestic and family violence.
For over 40 years we have been doing this work across the lands of the Gadigal and Wangal people of the Eora Nation (Sydney’s inner city and inner west regions), and working in partnership with community, business and government stakeholders.
The Community Engagement Officer is responsible for supporting the implementation of WAGEC’s community engagement strategy. The role will focus on working with WAGEC’s volunteers and community groups and supporting the evaluation and reporting of the program.
This role will report to, and work closely with, the Community Engagement Coordinator to recruit, onboard and support volunteers, conduct community engagement activities, and foster meaningful connections within WAGEC’s networks. This role will collaborate with WAGEC Client Services and Client Programs teams on the recruitment and retention of specific volunteer roles.
As WAGEC’s community engagement and advocacy functions evolve, this role will work with the Community Engagement Coordinator and the Fundraising and Communities team to strengthen community involvement and assist with community mobilisation.
The core responsibilities of the role are:
1. Volunteer Program Implementation (40%) – Work with the community engagement team and wider WAGEC to recruit, induct, place and track volunteers throughout their journey with WAGEC.
2. Community Engagement Support (30%) – Support WAGEC’s community engagement activities including planning and promoting community groups and facilitating activities for clients and the wider community.
3. Evaluation and Reporting (15%) – Conduct evaluation and reporting for WAGEC’s volunteer program, community engagement activities, and community mobilisation.
4. Event and Activation Support (15%) – Support WAGEC’s event planning and advocacy and community mobilisation approach, towards the goal of establishing a network for long-term influence and community-driven action.

For this position it is expected that you would possess the following qualifications/work experience:
Relevant Associate Degree, Advanced Diploma or Diploma OR at least 3 years relevant work experience in lieu of qualifications
At least 2 years relevant work experience
Experience in presenting and/or providing training in a workplace and/or adult education setting.
Practical understanding of the drivers and impacts of domestic and family violence on women and children
Experience developing and managing stakeholder relationships face-to-face, over the phone and online
Experience in problem-solving and managing competing priorities
Use of Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel
Desirable:
Experience delivering mentoring programs
Experience in case management or similar direct client support
Experience working with women with complex needs
Experience managing volunteers
Experience implementing and evaluating
Required:
Working with Children Check clearance
Criminal record check clearance
NSW Drivers licence
Physical: May be required to lift moderately heavy items occasionally.
