About the Position
Reporting to the Manager Community Capacity, the Reconciliation Project Officer is responsible for the development, coordination and review of Council’s Reconciliation Action Plan. This position will form part of the Reconciliation Action Plan Working Group, coordinate reporting to Council and be the primary contact for both internal and external enquiries on Reconciliation Action Plan matters.

- Experience engaging respectfully with Traditional Owners, Elders, community groups, Aboriginal organisations, and community stakeholders.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and facilitation skills to influence outcomes and foster positive partnerships.
- Demonstrated ability to review, develop, and implement strategies, policies and programs that support reconciliation initiatives.
- Passion and commitment to reconciliation, cultural awareness, and delivering impactful initiatives.
Key Selection Criteria:
- Relationship Management – Proven ability to build and maintain strong, respectful relationships with diverse stakeholders, including Traditional Owners, Elders, Aboriginal organisations, community groups, and internal staff.
- Reconciliation Knowledge – Sound understanding of reconciliation principles, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, and the ability to work sensitively and inclusively.
- Policy and Program Development – Demonstrated experience reviewing, developing, and implementing strategies, policies, procedures, and programs that support reconciliation outcomes.
- Project Coordination – Experience managing cross-organisational projects, coordinating working groups, and delivering outcomes aligned to strategic plans or action frameworks.
- Communication and Influence – Highly developed written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to prepare reports, facilitate discussions, and influence stakeholders effectively.
- Strategic Thinking and Initiative – Ability to research, analyse, and apply best practice approaches to improve organisational performance and community impact in reconciliation.
