About the Role

We are seeking a motivated Waste Management Officer to join the Resource Recovery team at Ballina Shire Council. This hands-on role involves delivering high-quality waste management services to the community while maintaining a safe, efficient, and professional operation at the Waste Management Centre.

You will work across a variety of operational tasks including weighbridge operations, drop-off area management, and general site maintenance, ensuring compliance with all safety, environmental, and service standards.

Key Responsibilities

Provide exceptional customer service to both internal and external clients

Perform operational duties across the resource recovery and transfer station facilities

Undertake weighbridge operations, including directing customers, receipting payments, and recording vehicle weights

Complete labouring and grounds maintenance tasks (mowing, litter collection, weeding, and general upkeep)

Operate plant and equipment safely and efficiently

Maintain a strong focus on work health and safety standards

What You'll Need

Essential:

Experience in the waste management industry

Physically fit with the ability to perform manual labour

Class C manual driver’s licence

Good communication skills and a strong customer service focus

Willingness to work rostered shifts including weekends and public holidays

Current immunisation (or willingness) for Hepatitis A and B

Desirable:

HR licence, Front End Loader or Forklift tickets

Experience in weighbridge operations and cash handling

White card and Working Near Overhead Powerlines certification
