Why are we looking?

Michael and Christine both graduated in 1991 with first class honours. But we are working 1.5 vets between us and we would like to drop back. We are looking for some fresh faced and enthusiastic young vet who wants to expand their clinical skills and take control over their professional life.

We are circling the runway to retirement so this is also a good opportunity for someone who thinks practice ownership is in their future.

The role

Ideally full time but happy with part time (>25 hours). You would be working alongside our 3 other vets.

The job entails surgery, consulting, internal medicine and diagnostic imaging of cats and dogs and exotics (5%). Orthopaedic surgeries are managed by a travelling specialist.

Skills required

Ideally would be comfortable or interested in learning about avian and exotics. They make up about 5% of our practice at the moment as well as a large load of wildlife that we treat for free. We have a trained exotic nurse and the equipment to expand into this area.

Able to do simple surgeries and consultations independently.

Able to communicate with clients and collegues. This includes good record keeping

Comfortable with up to date techniques, the use of AI and able to in-house diagnostics.

Ideally familiar with fear free principals

The practice

We are a husband and wife team with a very experienced associate to leaven the mix. Graduated in 1991 but have done membership in small animal medicine, ultrasound, surgery and emergency medicine. Our nurses are all experienced and we have a dedicated receptionist. The nurses are all trained to assist or perform the routine jobs like catheters, blood drawers, nails etc. Leaving the vets to concentrate on veterinary work.

The practice is purpose build and we have all the toys you'd expect including clotting machine, laser, tonometer, lactate, brooder/heated cages and DR xrays. Staff have a say in what to purchase in the next financial year.

We believe in a good work flow so we do 20 minute vaccinations and 30 minute consults. That may go back to 30 minutes for both if we get another associate. An hour lunch is 95% assured (barring disasters)

We do a fair amount of wildlife and rescue work, especially Koalas.

Benefits

Salary range in $90-100K with super and CPD on top. Depending on experience and performance, this can be increased.

1:2 support staff ratio as only 2 vets on at any one time.
