Caffe Primo Dernancourt, located in the heart of the Dernancourt Shopping Centre on Adelaide’s north-eastern fringe, is a popular family-friendly bistro known for its relaxed atmosphere and hearty Italian-inspired menu. Open daily from morning until late, it has become a local favourite for everything from casual breakfasts and coffee catch-ups to generous lunches and dinners. With a menu spanning pizzas, pastas, schnitzels, seafood, and all-day breakfast options, the café blends affordability with variety, making it a reliable spot for both dine-in and takeaway.

Caffe Primo Dernancourt is seeking a passionate and experienced Full-Time Head Chef to join our busy team.

Responsibilities:

Prepare and cook high-quality meals in accordance with Caffe Primo's menu and standards.

Ensure all dishes are presented professionally and maintain consistency in quality and taste.

Oversee food preparation and maintain a clean and organized kitchen environment.

Follow food safety regulations and hygiene standards at all times.

Work collaboratively with kitchen staff to ensure smooth and efficient service.

Assist in menu planning, ingredient selection, and inventory management.

Adapt to a fast-paced environment and manage multiple orders effectively.

Regularly check the freshness of food and ingredients to maintain high standards.

Train and supervise junior staff to ensure efficient operations and high-quality food preparation.

Requirements:

Proven experience as a Head Chef, preferably in a high-volume restaurant or café.

A passion for food and cooking and the courage to be creative.

Strong knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques, and kitchen operations.

Ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining attention to detail.

Excellent time management and multitasking skills.

A passion for food and creativity in presenting dishes.

Strong team player with good communication skills.

Understanding of food safety and hygiene practices.

Relevant culinary qualifications will be an advantage.

Hold a relevant AQF (or equivalent) Certificate IV in commercial Cookery/Diploma of Hospitality management.

Must have minimum 3 years of relevant post qualification work experience.

High Level of communication skills both with front of house and within your team when the pressure is on.

Experience in maintaining food safety records

In 1998 the first Caffe Primo store opened its doors to customers in Westfield Tea Tree Plaza as a sole trading family operated business. This stylish and trendy café seating 350 people struggled to meet daily sale targets. With their 25 years of business background, Dino and Lisa Vettese came up with the idea of a meal deal that would set a new trend for generations to come.

It began with the $4.90 pasta/pizza at lunchtimes, which was advertised with regular television commercials sent Caffe Primo into overdrive.

Reluctant entrepreneur, Dino Vettese was being approached about expanding the Caffe Primo brand into a Franchise.

Although hesitant at first the second Caffe Primo store opened its doors in Semaphore. A month later the next store, Caffe Primo Rundle Street and so, the venture commenced.

Today, Caffe Primo occupies over 20 stores in South Australia and employs over 550 staff.

“With a growth spurt of nearly 140 % & an annual turnover of $40 million in 2006, Caffe Primo was named the country’s biggest growing Franchise in BRW.”
