Do you have the leadership skills, technical know-how, and passion for delivering high-quality sporting fields for the community? Banyule City Council is seeking a skilled Sportsfield Team Leader to manage the professional maintenance, improvement, and long-term planning of our sporting fields.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with strong turf, sportsfield, or open space management experience who thrives on leading a team, working with contractors, and ensuring community facilities are safe, sustainable, and ready for play.
Why you'll love this role:
You'll provide leadership, support and guidance to team members, the coordinator and the wider Parks and Natural Environment leadership team. Each day you will supervise, control and participate in day-to-day activities and ensure works involving sportfields, turf wickets, croquet courts and irrigation maintenance, renovation and construction are completed as per legislation, standards and policies.
You'll also assist in the preparation of quotations and designs for irrigation, turf maintenance, renovation programs and the sporting fields associated assets and in the management of works.
As the Sportsfield Team Leader, you'll:
- Oversee the management and maintenance of Council's sporting fields to a high standard.
- Provide expert technical advice and support on turf, irrigation, and sportsfield management practices.
- Lead, support and mentor a dedicated team, ensuring programmed works are delivered effectively and on time.
- Manage contractors, plant, and materials to ensure efficient and sustainable outcomes.
- Respond to and manage customer service requests and projects related to sportsfields.
- Work collaboratively as part of the Parks and Natural Environment leadership team, providing input and advice on planning, projects, and service delivery.
What you'll bring/what we are looking for:
- Diploma or similar tertiary qualification with substantial experience in a relevant field.
- Ability to perform effectively and efficiently in undertaking the duties of the position, and dealing with the sometimes-complex customer, technical and staff/contractor issues
- Demonstrated experience in Local Government operations and services in Sportsfield Turf Management operations or similar experience in the private or public sector.
- Demonstrated team leadership experience and ability, with the sound capacity to plan and organise the work of self and others and achieve realistic timetables and objectives.
- Demonstrated ability to provide concise but informative written technical and advisory reports for a range of audiences.
- An understanding of relevant legislative codes and practices of Australia in regard to the construction and maintenance of sportsfields.
- The ability to implement procedures for measuring, costing and recording to achieve effective budget control over works carried out
Pre-employment requirements:
- Current Victorian Drivers Licence
- Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check
