On behalf of the Office of the Special Envoy to Combat Islamophobia (OSECI), face2face Recruitment wants to hear from interested candidates.

This role is available across all states in Australia with hybrid/remote working arrangements. Part time work arrangements will also be considered. This is a fixed term contract for 24 months with potential for extension.

About the Organisation

The Office of the Special Envoy to Combat Islamophobia (OSECI) plays a key role in supporting the Australian Government’s efforts to address and counter Islamophobia. It's work is focused on advancing community trust, promoting cultural responsiveness, and delivering targeted initiatives that challenge stereotypes and foster inclusion. By building community resilience and responding to Islamophobic incidents, OSECI provides vital input to policy, advocacy, and public engagement.

About the Job

The Media Monitoring and Response Officer will lead efforts to track, analyse, and respond to instances of Islamophobia across traditional and social media platforms. You will be responsible for identifying trends, advocating for fair and accurate reporting, and creating compelling narratives that amplify positive stories of Muslim communities. This is a role for someone passionate about human rights and social justice, with strong skills in media analysis, advocacy, and content creation. Lived experience is highly regarded.

Key areas of focus include:

Monitoring and responding to anti-Muslim statements in media and online platforms.

Developing public complaint templates and systems for reporting Islamophobia.

Creating written and multimedia content to challenge stereotypes and promote positive narratives.

Producing and supporting podcasts, editorials, and community storytelling initiatives.

Providing reports, submissions, and resources for journalists and policymakers.

Required Skills and Experience

To be considered, you must:

Be an Australian citizen.

Hold or have the ability to obtain a baseline clearance.

Essential qualifications and skills:

Degree in Media & Communications, Journalism, Sociology, Anthropology, Human Rights, or a related field.

Experience in journalism, media monitoring, or campaigning against hate speech.

Strong community engagement and storytelling background.

Proficiency in media scanning tools and social media analytics (e.g. Brand Watch, TweetDeck).

Proven ability to challenge harmful narratives with cultural competence and empathy.

Desirable:

Prior experience producing podcasts, videos, or other multimedia content.

Experience in human rights or anti-discrimination advocacy.

Research experience (qualitative and quantitative).
