About Suicide Programs

We deliver evidence-based programs that empower communities to recognise and respond to signs of suicide risk. These programs focus on building confidence, skills, and cultural safety to support people in distress.

Suicide is disproportionately impacting First Nations Communities. In fact 95% of Indigenous Australians are impacted by suicide.

CALM Yarn is a First Nations suicide prevention program designed to teach safe, respectful, and culturally appropriate ways of having conversations about suicide. It equips people to:

Recognise the signs that someone may be thinking about suicide.

Confidently start a safe conversation in a culturally appropriate way.

Provide ongoing support and encourage connection to services or community supports.

As a trainer, you will deliver CALM Yarn workshops helping communities strengthen resilience and save lives.

About the Role

First things first, we will train you to deliver CALM Yarn. This training takes 4 days in person in Brisbane.

In the training you will experience the program CALM Yarn as a participant and we then will equip you with the knowledge of skills to be able to facilitate this program on your own. At the end of the 4 days you will be assessed and if successful you will join our team on a casual basis. If you pass the assessment you will be considered as accredited in CALM Yarn which means you can deliver this program to your own clients, organisation and communities, as many times as you like.

When we have clients asking for CALM Yarn you will be offered the opportunity to deliver the program on our behalf. We ask that you deliver at least one training on behalf of Suicide Programs/ year, more if you want. If you don’t meet this expectation you will lose your licence to deliver CALM Yarn.

What We Offer

Free 4 days training program in suicide prevention facilitation. If you are joining our training program from more than 2 hours travel time outside of Brisbane we will contribute to your travel expenses.

$500 (+casual loading + super) for each suicide prevention workshop delivered on our behalf. Travel and accommodation covered when you are delivering training sessions for our clients.

Flexible casual engagement. You can choose how many sessions you deliver depending on your availability. There is a minimum requirement to deliver at least one CALM Yarn workshop for a Suicide Programs client per year.

Opportunities to also deliver the training within your own communities or client base.

Ongoing support, connection and mentoring from our team, for as long as you meet the requirements of holding a CALM Yarn licence.

The opportunity to make a lasting impact by strengthening wellbeing and reducing suicide risk in First Nations communities.
