About the role
The Residential Coordinator's role leads and coordinates a portfolio of residential care programs, ensuring children and young people with complex behavioural and therapeutic needs receive consistent, high-quality care. This role supervises and mentors the Care Team, supporting both daily care and therapeutic intervention.
You will balance hands-on operational oversight with strategic program coordination, ensuring safe, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive practice across the service. Key focus areas
Lead, mentor, and supervise Residential Care Practitioners.
Oversee the delivery of therapeutic care, daily programs, and critical/non-critical incident management.
Collaborate on client transitions, assessment, and intervention planning.
Maintain accurate, legible, and legally defensible documentation and reporting.
Contribute to program improvement, compliance, and quality assurance initiatives.
Promote culturally safe, inclusive practice and effective team culture.
Participate in after-hours on-call duties as required.

Who we’re looking for
Diploma in Community Services or related discipline (essential); tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology or Human Services is highly desirable.
Minimum two years' experience providing high-level care to children and young people in residential or out-of-home care settings and direct experience across diverse settings. Demonstrated ability to create safe, supportive, and engaging environments for children and young people
Skilled in coordinating daily routines, managing programs, and supporting positive transitions for children and young people. Skilled in behaviour support, including implementing Positive Behaviour Support Plans and supporting children with diverse developmental needs.
Strong understanding of trauma-informed care, attachment, and therapeutic interventions. Experience coordinating daily routines and working collaboratively with families, psychologists, and other stakeholders to foster positive relationships that support children’s growth, resilience, and wellbeing. Demonstrated leadership experience in a social welfare context, with the ability to supervise, coach, and support teams, including managing conflict and guiding staff through challenges. Commitment to child safety, accurate record keeping, and compliance with all relevant standards and legislation.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across diverse stakeholders. Current Driver Licence and eligibility for all relevant checks (e.g., Blue Card, Working with Children).
Desirable
Experience in reunification, and/or preadolescent care.
Strong knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and contemporary issues affecting children and families.
