This permanent, full time role reports to the Coordinator Environmental Health Services and is responsible for delivering statutory public health programs, such as Food Safety Assessments, Complaints Investigation and Environmental Health Approvals along with supporting public health initiatives such as implementing the City’s Public Health Plan.
In this role, you will undertake duties such as:
Provide technical advice and support to businesses, community and Council staff on environmental and public health matters
Ensure compliance and investigate breaches of state legislation and local laws on environmental and public health matters
Respond to and investigate public health complaints including noise and odour pollution, food safety matters, unhealthy premises, keeping of animals and water and land contamination.
Inspection of premises including food businesses, lodging houses, caravan parks and public swimming pools
Research and report on environmental health issues affecting the City of Canning and provide input into policy and strategy development.
About you:
Bachelor of Science (Environmental Health) or other qualification acceptable to be appointed as an Environmental Health Officer as required by the Public Health Act 2016.
Strong knowledge of and ability to interpret regulations, codes, standards and apply legislation, including the Public Health Act 2016, Health Miscellaneous Provisions Act 1911, and Food Act 2008
Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to research, write reports, plans and liaise with a broad range of stakeholders
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a proactive and solutions-focused approach
Current “C” class driver’s licence
Current Satisfactory National Police Clearance (under six months validity)
