Please note: The immediate vacancy advertised is located in Melbourne, Victoria, with Regional Director VIC/TAS. There is also an expected vacancy located in Perth, Western Australia. As such, the merit list may be used to fill similar vacancies located in other regions.

The Office of the Regional Director supports the Regional Director in their role as regional representative for the Department of Home Affairs and the Office for Multicultural Affairs (OMA). Reporting directly to the Head of OMA, the role of the Regional Director is to undertake engagement with key external government and community stakeholders to engender support for departmental policy, programs and initiatives. The Regional Director also has accountability for the pastoral care of staff and other resources based in the region.

Our ideal candidate

Our ideal candidate will:

Be a self-starter, who is proactive in identifying and resolving issues that impact the region, Regional Director and the Department more broadly.

Provide high-level administrative and strategic support to the Regional Director, demonstrating exemplary administrative and organisational skills, ability to manage competing demands and high-level attention to detail.

Represent the Regional Director, interpreting their intent and conveying it through the provision of guidance and advice to stakeholders, displaying good judgement, flexibility and discretion.

Manage the Regional Director's Office through preparation and coordination of correspondence, briefings and advice on complex and/or sensitive issues.

Establish, maintain and foster productive relationships with, and providing high-level service to internal and external stakeholders including the Regional Director, Senior Executive, Senior Leadership, ministerial offices, all staff and external agencies.

Duties and responsibilities

Critically analyse complex issues, undertake quality research and provide strategic advice to the Regional Director and senior leaders on regional matters impacting business lines.

Coordinate and/or prepare complex and/or sensitive correspondence, briefing papers, speeches, talking points, meeting summaries, and other strategic communication and correspondence.

Identify, report on and mitigate risks and issues of concern, and escalate if required.

Act as the principal point of contact on issues for the Regional Director Office, as required.

Build and maintain quality relationships; including internally to support the Department's Transformation Agenda, and externally to identify opportunities and enable outcomes for the Department through the Regional Director.

Manage, coordinate and deliver events and forums led by the Regional Director, including negotiating with stakeholders, preparing briefing material and providing administrative or secretariat support.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.

The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 1 (AGSVA) security clearance, and:

ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).

Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.

In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
