This is an identified position for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. The role is a genuine occupational requirement under Section 14 of the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.
We are on the lookout for an amazing assistant to work across our Designing Futures and Supported Playgroup Programs. Monday to Thursday 10am to 6pm.
The Designing Futures program is an initiative aimed at supporting Aboriginal children and young people aged 9-15 in Orange, to strengthen their connection with education and expand their opportunities for positive futures.
The Designing Futures Assistant provides hands-on support in running workshops, after-school activities, homework help, and school holiday programs. The role involves building positive relationships with children, young people, families, and community members while ensuring all activities are delivered in a culturally safe, inclusive, and supportive environment.
Supported Playgroup focuses on supporting the development and wellbeing of both the parents and children. The playgroup supports children’s social emotional and physical developments and supports parents implementing different strategies to overcome any issues that may arise. The program provides activities that focus on getting children to school, improving education outcomes, and improving access to further education as well as supporting families to give children a good start in life
Your role will include:
Work with the Program Manager to plan, prepare and deliver workshops, after-school activities, homework help, and holiday programs.
Build positive relationships with children, young people, their families, and community members to support ongoing engagement.
Provide supervision, guidance, and encouragement to children and young people during activities.
Assist in setting up, running, and packing away program activities and events.
Provide transport for children and young people to attend activities (in line with OLALC policies)
Assist the Playgroup Team Leader in delivering supported playgroup sessions
Build and maintain positive, respectful relationships with parents, carers, children, and stakeholders
Design and deliver creative play activities tailored to the developmental needs of children aged 0–5 years
Ensure play areas are safe, engaging, and clean
Selection Criteria:
This is an Identified Role – Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicants only
Minimum Cert III Early Childhood OR Relevant Experience
Experience working with, or supporting, children and/or young people in community, cultural, school, or recreational settings
Ability to engage and build trusting relationships with children, young people, families, and community members
Good communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to take direction and work collaboratively
Reliability, flexibility, and a willingness to learn new skills.
Understanding of issues affecting Aboriginal children, young people, and families
Required Checks:
Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain)
National Criminal Record Check (or willingness to obtain)
Valid C Class Driver’s License
