About Yirara College
Yirara College is a co-educational Lutheran boarding school in Alice Springs that provides education and residential care for Indigenous students from remote communities. Our goal is to create a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment where students are affirmed in their identity and encouraged to grow in life skills, confidence, and faith.
The Role
We are seeking caring, reliable, and dedicated Boarding House Parents to join our team. These roles are gender-identified positions:
Male applicants for Male Boarding.
Female applicants for Female Boarding.
Boarding House Parents play a vital role in the day-to-day care of students. You will support and mentor students, help build their independence and life skills and provide a safe and welcoming home environment within the College boarding community.
Key responsibilities include:
Providing care, supervision, and support for students in dormitories, during activities, and on excursions.
Supporting students in daily routines such as meals, homework, and preparation for school.
Building positive relationships and modelling respectful behaviours.
Assisting students with developing life skills and healthy relationships.
Leading evening routines, including prayer and devotions.
Supporting cultural respect, wellbeing, and a nurturing Christian environment.
About You
We are looking for people who are approachable, patient, and committed to working with young people in a cross-cultural environment.
You will have:
A genuine commitment to the wellbeing of Indigenous students.
Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
Ability to supervise and support adolescents in a boarding/residential setting.
Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings and weekends.
Current Ochre Card (Working With Children Clearance) or ability to obtain.
Current First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
Desirable:
Previous experience in boarding, residential care, or working with Indigenous students.
Certificate IV in Residential Care or willingness to undertake training (support provided).
NT Driver’s Licence (LR desirable).
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are strongly encouraged to apply.
