We are seeking an experienced Payroll Officer to join a respected local government organisation where your work makes a genuine impact. This role offers the opportunity to build on your payroll expertise while contributing to a team culture that values equity, diversity, inclusion, and service to the community. You will gain exposure to complex payroll processing, enterprise agreement interpretation, and continuous improvement projects while working closely with a supportive People & Safety team.
Key duties:
Be responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll for approximately 1,200 staff on a fortnightly cycle.
Use iChris/Chris21 to manage end-to-end payroll functions, including calculations, adjustments, and payment processing.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records, including masterfile changes, allowances, deductions, and variations.
Reconcile payroll payments and ensure all EFT transactions are processed correctly and on schedule.
Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, superannuation requirements, and enterprise agreements.
Provide professional advice and support to employees and managers on payroll-related matters, including entitlements and leave calculations.
Contribute to the ongoing improvement of payroll systems and processes, supporting efficiency and accuracy across the team.
Key selection criteria:
Minimum 2 years’ recent experience working with iChris or Chris21 in a medium-to-large organisation, ideally within government.
Strong technical knowledge of payroll legislation, superannuation, and enterprise agreements.
Proven ability to manage high-volume payrolls (500+ employees) with accuracy and attention to detail.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to interpret and apply payroll policies and agreements.
Strong customer service and communication skills, with the ability to respond to queries sensitively and professionally.
A commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes while working effectively both independently and as part of a team.
