The Role
The Junior School Music Teacher is directly responsible to the Director of Junior School. For teaching and wellbeing matters, you are responsible to the Assistant Directors of Junior School, while working in collaboration with the Director of Music. This ensures integration of curriculum in the Junior School whilst also seamless progression across the whole College. It is a requirement to have good piano skills and a sound knowledge of Music pedagogy. The music program in the Junior School is underpinned by the Orff Schulwerk (Creative Music and Movement) approach and is enriched by elements of the Kodaly methodology.
Key Responsibilities:
In collaboration with the Assistant Directors of Junior School and Director of Music plan and implement a comprehensive and coherent teaching/learning programme for the Junior School. The Arts – Music area in the College involves: General Class Music program, instrumental ensembles and choirs, and assisting teachers with musical items and school concerts.
To share responsibility, in conjunction with other members of the music department, for special groups such as choirs and instrumental ensembles. To initiate ensemble groups as appropriate.
To assist in special functions such as Assembly, Chapel, Junior School Concert, Soirees, choir and ensemble workshops and occasional special events.
About You
Available to commence at the College in Term 1, 2026, you are an innovative, passionate, and experienced Music Teacher, who is as passionate about the arts as we are. Under the guidance of our Director of Music, and in regular consultation with the Assistant Director of Junior School (Wellbeing), you will be able to develop and run a stimulating and engaging Music program in our Junior School with a particular focus on teaching students from Year 2 to Year 6.
Cognisant of current curriculum developments and initiatives, you consistently strive to provide an engaging learning experience, which naturally inspires an appreciation of Music in all your students. You can also demonstrate:
experience in, and commitment to, effectively integrating technology into classroom delivery;
a commitment to nurturing the individual student;
a commitment to self-development and ongoing learning, and the desire to be part of a dynamic educational team;
appropriate tertiary qualifications;
current registration with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia;
a current Working with Children Clearance;
National Police Clearance Certificate; and a commitment to supporting the College’s Anglican ethos.
Applicants for the position should be:
trained at Level 2 (as a minimum) in Orff Schulwerk (essential) and fully committed to using this methodology in the classroom.
skilled in choral work and conducting (essential).
understand and are competent in basic vocal technique (essential).
a competent pianist (desirable).
Kodály trained (desirable); and
experienced in wind band and directing (desirable).
