We are seeking a candidate who is willing to learn and has an understanding of leading and supporting projects within a complex organisation.Transport planning is a fast-paced discipline with local government at the forefront of action.
The Strategic Transport Planner leads and provides support on transport planning, strategy and projects for the City of Yarra. Drawing on Council’s principal guiding documents in this field, the Yarra Transport Strategy and Transport Action Plan, this position primarily brings expertise to plan and deliver the New Deal for Walking, together with the New Deal for Cycling and New Deal for Schools.
This role will have responsibility for a range of transport projects, including policy and report writing. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated candidate who will:
- Lead implementing our exciting New Deal for Walking programme that aims to drive active travel behaviour change and infrastructure improvements around Yarra.
- Assist with statutory planning referrals, write Council documents and submissions, provide internal transport advice, and independently manage internal and external enquiries as needed.
- Be passionate about sustainable transport and achieving better outcomes for people travelling in Yarra.
- Build and maintain relationships and partnerships with people and organisations across the municipality to achieve Yarra's sustainable transport goals, as set out in the Yarra Transport Strategy and Transport Action Plan.
- Have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
