About the Role
We are seeking a Project Design Coordinator, Junior Curator & Artist Liaison to join our team on a short-term contract.
This hybrid role combines design expertise (InDesign is essential) with curatorial research, project coordination, and artist liaison responsibilities. You'll help deliver client presentations, prepare artist briefs, support project delivery, and ensure our creative and operational outputs are of the highest quality.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a motivated emerging arts professional who wants to gain mentorship and professional development. The role is designed to help the successful candidate build the skills and confidence to eventually manage projects up to $50,000 independently.
What You'll Do
Coordinate the delivery of public art, exhibitions, and cultural projects, including administration, scheduling, and documentation.
Support artist procurement, contract preparation, and concept development.
Create and polish client presentations, proposals, and templates in Adobe InDesign.
Conduct curatorial research and source artists for projects.
Liaise with artists, clients, and suppliers via phone and email
Prepare project documents, presentations, and proposals in InDesign, Google Docs, and Sheets.
Assist with contracts, project tracking, and communications.
Coordinate logistics for art installations, events, and activations.
Provide design support for marketing materials and proposals.
Assist in community engagement activities, workshops, and site visits.
Maintain accurate project records, budgets, and timelines.
Write and edit content, including project descriptions, reports, and promotional material.
Support event coordination and documentation.
Learn from and work under the guidance of the Senior Curator & Art Project Manager to develop skills to manage projects independently.
What We Need
Essential Skills & Experience
Tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in visual arts, arts management, curating, design, or related field.
Demonstrated interest in contemporary art, public art, and/or cultural programming.
Highly proficient in Adobe InDesign, must be able to create professional documents, presentations, and reports.
Advanced proficiency in Adobe InDesign (minimum 2 years commercial experience) with the ability to create complex multi-page documents and branded templates
Strong writing skills and attention to detail (accuracy in spelling, formatting, and communication is essential).
Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Confident liaison skills with artists, suppliers, and stakeholders.
Competence in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides).
Office or professional experience (minimum 18 months).
Minimum 18 months of experience in an arts organisation, cultural institution, or design studio environment
Strong verbal communication and phone manner.
Desirable Skills & Experience
Experience in event coordination, exhibition installation, or project administration.
Knowledge of art handling, fabrication, or installation processes.
Understanding of cultural protocols and working respectfully with First Nations artists and communities.
Budgeting skills and familiarity with project tracking.
Experience working in a small, collaborative team environment.
