Principal Policy Officer – CMI Program
Brisbane CBD location – hybrid
Initial contract: 1 September 2025 – 30 June 2026
$83.99/hour + superannuation
Infrastructure Services Division – Office of the Executive Director

About the Department

The Department of Education (DoE) is delivering one of Queensland’s largest education infrastructure investment programs. With an annual capital works portfolio of ~$2 billion and assets exceeding $40 billion, the department is committed to improving infrastructure delivery and contractor management to ensure safe, high-quality learning environments.

The Opportunity

Join the Contractor Management Improvement (CMI) Program—one of the department’s key reform initiatives—as a Principal Policy Officer. You’ll play a critical role in developing policies, procedures, and implementation tools that improve contractor safety, performance, and compliance.

This is an ideal opportunity for a policy or program professional with strong experience in infrastructure, government reform, or contractor management.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Analyse current contractor management practices and identify key risks and improvement areas;
  • Develop policies, procedures, and operational tools that support safe, effective contractor management;
  • Lead working groups and stakeholder engagement sessions to support co-design and implementation;
  • Produce high-quality written material such as internal papers, briefings, and reform tracking reports;
  • Collaborate across business units to ensure reform is embedded and practical in application; and
  • Track and monitor implementation progress and provide strategic recommendations.

Required Experience:

While no formal qualifications are mandatory, the following experience is highly regarded:

  • Government infrastructure delivery and reform;
  • Contractor management, procurement, or safety within infrastructure contexts;
  • Business improvement or transformation projects; and
  • Complex stakeholder environments, particularly within the public sector.

About You:

  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical and written communication skills;
  • Confident facilitator with experience leading engagement and reform;
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and compressed project timelines;
  • Solutions-focused and resilient in fast-paced policy environments; and
  • Strong relationship builder with excellent stakeholder and conflict resolution skills.

Benefits of the Role:

  • Strategic, high-impact project within a major Queensland Government department;
  • Flexible work arrangements in a central CBD location;
  • Be part of a dynamic and supportive program team leading business transformation; and
  • Opportunity to influence statewide infrastructure practices and policy.
