The Sydney Symphony Orchestra is an orchestra of world standing and one of the leading orchestras in the Asia-Pacific region. The Sydney Symphony performs approximately 150 concerts each year to an annual audience of more than 350,000. The Role
The Accounts Payable Officer is responsible for the timely operation of invoice processing and assists in the smooth running of the Finance department within Sydney Symphony.

The Accounts Payable Officer is responsible for elements of accounts payable, banking, general ledger, petty cash handling, archiving, and general administrative duties.

Key Accountabilities

Accounts Payable process:

Ensure all supplier invoices are appropriately authorised

Check coding and process supplier invoices, staff expenses and credit card statements into SunSystems

Process weekly payment run

Process ad hoc payments as needed

Reconcile creditor balances

Prepare foreign currency payments and process into SunSystems

Answer accounts payable related queries

Maintain good relationships with regular suppliers and service companies

Banking:

Maintain register for bank, cheque signatory, online authorizer and corporate card holder

General Ledger:

Assist in end-of-month reporting

Reconcile and post lease accounting journals

Reconcile and post fixed asset register journals

General Ledger Accounts reconciliation

Petty Cash Handling:

Ensure petty cash tin is acquitted on a regular basis and topped-up

Reconcile the petty cash account monthly

Archiving:

Maintain Business Services Archive Register

Archive regularly and at least half yearly

Participate and contribute to the annual external audit

General administrative duties as required by the Finance Manager and Director of Finance

Qualifications and Skills

Experience in accounts payable and bookkeeping

Preferred qualified accounting accreditation

Accurate numerical skills

Strong attention to detail

Excellent time management and work prioritisation skills

Willingness to learn and develop accounting and finance skills

Highest possible ethical standards in all aspects of professional life

Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel

Good written and verbal communication skills

Experience with SunSystems preferable

Development

Professional development in specialist accounting areas, including financial reporting
