The Opportunity

As the Senior Internal Audit Officer in the City of Perth, you will be responsible for leading the development and delivery of the City’s audit and related plans. This role combines strong research, inquiry, and stakeholder engagement skills to communicate audit and risk requirements, supporting effective governance and the City’s strategic risk management objectives.

Reporting to the Manager in the Audit and Risk team, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating the delivery of the City’s Strategic Internal Audit Plan, including scheduling, defining scope, overseeing fieldwork, and preparing reports;
  • Conducting internal audits and verification processes, such as the Compliance Audit Return and quarterly recommendation reviews;
  • Managing the procurement, performance, and relationships of external audit service providers; and
  • Building and maintaining strong internal relationships to support audit planning and ensure alignment with strategic risk objectives.

About You

To succeed in this role, you will possess:

  • Demonstrated experience in planning and conducting internal audits in a complex or public sector environment;
  • Sound knowledge of audit and risk frameworks, including the International Professional Practices Framework (IPPF);
  • Strong analytical, research, and report writing skills, with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights; and
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
