The Opportunity:
- Full-Time | Ongoing contract of employment
- PW8 $104,883 - $114,252 per annum pro rata + 12% super + leave loading (dependent on qualifications and experience)
- Chadstone Campus – onsite parking with close proximity to public transport, with a requirement to work at other campuses as needed.
The Student Wellbeing Department is dedicated to championing the health, safety and overall wellbeing of Holmesglen students, creating a supportive environment where every learner can thrive. From short-term counselling and mental health support to crisis intervention, our services span all campuses to ensure students have access to care when they need it most.
Beyond individual support, the department leads a range of targeted welfare programs that address critical student needs—including financial assistance, housing support, food security and access to health services like bulk-billed GP appointments. By working closely with internal departments and community partners, we help students build resilience, stay connected, and have a fulfilling educational experience.
The purpose of this role is to provide strategic leadership in the development and delivery of high-quality clinical counselling and welfare assistance to support student wellbeing and success. The Counselling and Welfare Services Manager is a pivotal role in supporting the mental health and wellbeing of students within the Institute. This position oversees the counselling and welfare services provided to students, manages a team of counsellors, welfare officers and youth workers and collaborates with other departments to create a supportive and inclusive campus environment. The Counselling and Welfare Services Manager is responsible for developing and implementing programs, policies and initiatives that promote psychological wellness and student success.
As the Counselling and Welfare Services Manager, you will:
- Develop and manage the implementation of student wellbeing strategies and programs through a team of qualified counsellors and welfare officers, including the design, development and implementation of new policies and innovative ways of adapting existing strategies to effectively promote and manage the mental health support of students.
- Drive cultural change by developing positive relationships and networks within and external to the Institute.
- Provide authoritative mental health information, advice and direction to stakeholders such as Deans, Heads of Department and Education Managers across all areas of Holmesglen.
- Structure the operations of the counselling and welfare teams to support the achievement of Institute objectives and report as required on the outcomes of agreed targets.
- Through the counselling and welfare teams, manage the development and delivery of psychosocial, emotional intelligence, mental health literacy, team building and resilience programs to students.
- Work with the Student Wellbeing Manager to effectively manage a budget through the appropriate use of internal resourcing, external agencies and other relevant arrangements.
To be successful, you’ll have:
- Post-graduate qualifications in psychology or counselling, or related mental health discipline
- Full registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Registration Agency (AHPRA), or Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) or Australian Counselling Association (ACA) or Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA).
- Must be currently working towards or is registered as a Clinical Supervisor.
- Strong background in delivering professional counselling and welfare support, particularly within student settings, and a deep understanding of the mental health challenges commonly faced by students throughout the post-secondary education lifecycle, grounded in ethical practice, with a solid grasp of case management processes relevant to student wellbeing services.
- Demonstrated success in leading mental health initiatives and student counselling programs, with a proven ability to implement and manage change effectively.
- The ability to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritise under pressure, and meet ongoing deadlines. Extending to project planning and evaluation, using data and analysis to assess effectiveness, alongside a strong working knowledge of welfare services, referral networks, and regulatory standards such as TEQSA and ASQA.
- Current Victoria Driver’s licence.
- WWCC and Police Check: Appointment to this position is dependent on obtaining an ‘employee’ Working with Children Check, and a valid Police Check within the last 12 months.
