We are currently seeking an experienced ILS/Systems Integration Lab Service Manager for our consulting services and Integrated Work Packages.
The ILS/Systems Integration Lab Service Manager is responsible for overseeing the operation and maintenance of a Systems Integration Lab (SIL). This role will ensure the stability, integrity and efficient operation of the SIL including its network, infrastructure, and business applications.

Our Technical, Advisory, and Capability practice and Team Downer serves as one of the Major Service Providers delivering consulting services and Integrated Work Packages across the Department of Defence, leveraging innovative approaches such as mission and digital engineering to enable the successful delivery of critical Defence programs.
This includes collaboration with key Defence entities, including Defence Digital Group (DDG), National Shipbuilding and Sustainment Group (NSSG), Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG), and branches across the Navy, Army, and Air Force.
We are currently seeking an experienced ILS/Systems Integration Lab Service Manager for our consulting services and Integrated Work Packages.
We are seeking candidates with defence industry experience in the follow areas:
- Experience in systems integration, lab management, or related role
- Proven leadership and team management skills
- Excellent problem solving, analytical and critical thinking skills
- A high-level of communication and interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships
- Experience in Lab resource management, safety protocols and compliance requirements
Our work is highly complex and confidential; applicants must be Australian citizens with a minimum NV1 security clearance. Additionally, compliance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) requirements may be necessary. In some cases, this may impose restrictions individuals who are dual citizens, permanent residency, or former nationality of specific countries as outlined in ITAR 126.1.

About the Role:
The Systems Integration Lab Service Manager is responsible for overseeing the operation and maintenance of a Systems Integration Lab (SIL). This role will ensure the stability, integrity and efficient operation of the SIL including its network, infrastructure, and business applications.
You will work closely with Defence business areas and industry partners to ensure the SIL is secure, stable and fit for purpose.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the development, implementation and maintenance of Lab procedures, processes, and best practice support that enables the efficient and effective testing of software and hardware.
- Ensure the Lab environment meets all safety, security, and compliance standards, including data security, access control, and disaster recovery protocols.
- Control the acquisition, storage, distribution, movement and disposal of SIL assets.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and external vendors to coordinate integration efforts, resolve technical issues and organise efficient logistics movements to unit.
- Collaborate with engineering and logistics teams to ensure all components and subsystems are available and integrated with units according to project schedules
- Collaborate with Senior Leadership Team and security team to continue the completion of the Plan of Actions and Milestones (POAM) and security requirement in order to achieve Authority of Operated status
Our Ideal Candidate
Our ideal candidate will be a natural problem solver and will want to develop their service management career further. The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience in Systems Integration Lab environments and maintaining secure networks
- Knowledge of industry standards and best practices for Lab operations and systems integrations
- Background in logistics management within engineering defence environments with a strong understanding of systems integration and supply chain processes
Key Attributes:
- A high-level of communication and interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships.
- The ability to liaise at all levels with a diverse range of suppliers and stakeholders, and develop written communications, reports and other documentation.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities, resources and meet deadlines.
- The ability to use initiative, innovation and agility to ensure support to the strategic direction.
- Experience and knowledge of the service management tool JIRA would be beneficial.
- Experience in technical BMS knowledge would be beneficial
- Configuration / asset management knowledge would be beneficial,
- Procurement and/or financial management skills would be beneficial.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelors (or Masters) Engineering or equivalent
- Experience in systems integration, lab management or related role
- Proven leadership and team management skills
- Excellent problem solving, analytical and critical thinking skills
- A high-level of communication and interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships.
- Experience in Lab resource management, safety protocols and compliance requirements
