About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Officer to join a high-performing shared services payroll team based in Newcastle. This role is responsible for the end-to-end processing of weekly, fortnightly, and monthly payrolls, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and awards, and providing exceptional support to employees and internal stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Process end-to-end payroll, including wage calculations, back pays, and terminations
• Maintain and update payroll records accurately and in a timely manner
• Interpret and apply relevant awards, agreements, and contracts
• Respond to payroll-related queries from staff and management
• Prepare reports on earnings, taxes, deductions, and other payroll functions
• Administer and reconcile superannuation, payroll tax, group tax, LSL levy, and workers' compensation premiums
• Ensure compliance with Single Touch Payroll reporting
• Calculate and submit LSL reimbursement claims
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of payroll systems and processes

Skills & ExperienceEssential:

• Demonstrated experience in payroll processing
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
• Ability to interpret industrial agreements and legislation
• Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines
• Commitment to confidentiality and data privacy

Desirable:

• Experience using SAP payroll systems
• Knowledge of payroll legislation including taxation and superannuation
