Intake & Brief Intervention Counsellor – Suicide Bereavement Support
Are you a skilled mental health professional with a passion for supporting individuals during their most vulnerable moments? Are you confident and capable when working remotely?
We’re seeking an empathetic and experienced Intake & Brief Intervention Counsellor to be the first point of contact for those accessing our Suicide Bereavement Counselling Service (SBCS).
In this pivotal role, you’ll conduct intake assessments, risk screenings, and provide brief therapeutic support to individuals navigating grief, trauma, and distress following suicide loss. You’ll work within a person-centred, trauma-informed framework to ensure every individual is met with compassion, understanding, and practical care.
What You’ll Be Doing
· Deliver client-centred intake, screening, and brief interventions.
· Conduct risk assessments and escalate appropriately.
· Provide psychoeducation, emotional support, and safety planning.
· Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure coordinated care.
· Maintain accurate and confidential client records.
· Contribute to service improvement, resource development, and team culture.
What You’ll Bring
Essential:
· Tertiary qualifications in counselling, psychology, social work, or mental health.
· Registration with a recognised professional body (PACFA, ACA, AASW, AHPRA).
· Experience in mental health intake, screening, and brief intervention.
· Knowledge of suicide postvention, trauma-informed care, and grief support.
· Strong interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity.
· Tech-savvy with Microsoft Teams and video conferencing tools.
Desirable:
· ASIST or similar suicide intervention training.
· Experience in suicide prevention or postvention settings.
