The Role
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to join our finance team in a full-time capacity. This role is primarily focused on core accounting functions that support the financial integrity and operational efficiency of the Company. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing payroll, and supporting compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements. The role also includes administrative support related to finance operations.
Duties and Responsibilities
Assist with month-end accounting processes including journal entries, accruals, prepayments, and cost allocations.
Reconcile general ledger accounts monthly for AUAV Pty Ltd.
Prepare and analyse job costing reports, identify variances, and communicate findings to stakeholders.
Manage supplier and customer invoicing in accordance with internal financial controls.
Assist with budgeting, long-term forecasting, and fortnightly cash flow projections.
Provide commercial input during tendering processes, including costing support.
Monitor and manage aged debtors of of AUAV Pty Ltd and oversee debt collection to minimise bad debts.
Support the implementation and optimisation of accounting and payroll systems.
Conduct annual Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) reconciliations and assist with related returns.
Ensure compliance with payroll tax, workers compensation, superannuation, and other interstate obligations.
Assist with annual audits and liaise with external auditors and regulatory bodies.
Process fortnightly payroll in accordance with legislation and internal policies.
Ensure compliance with PAYG, superannuation, and state-based payroll tax legislation.
Interpret EBAs and Awards, liaising with HR to ensure payroll accuracy and compliance.
Generate ad hoc financial and operational reports as required.
Provide administrative support related to finance operations as needed.
Skills and Experience
Demonstrated experience in accounting support roles, including payroll processing and financial reporting.
Experience with accounting systems and payroll software (D365, Xero)
Prior involvement in audit preparation and liaising with external financial stakeholders.
Strong understanding of Australian Accounting Standards.
Knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, EBAs, Awards, PAYG, superannuation, and payroll tax.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools.
Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
High level of discretion and professionalism in handling confidential financial information.
Education, Qualifications, Certificates and Training
Degree-equivalent qualification in Accounting or a related discipline.
