East Preston Islamic College is seeking a dedicated and experienced educator to lead its Vocational Education program. The VET Coordinator plays a pivotal role in guiding students through vocational pathways, including development, coordination, and delivery of all Vocational Education and Training (VET), VCE Vocational Major (VM), Victorian Pathways Certificate (VPC), School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBATs), and Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) programs.
Working in close collaboration with the Careers and Pathways Coordinator, the VET Coordinator ensures that vocational offerings are current and tailored to meet the needs of students. This role involves extensive engagement with staff, families, Registered Training Organisations (RTOs), and external partners to deliver high-quality, student-centred vocational education.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Program Coordination
Lead the planning, implementation, and evaluation of VET, VCE VM, VPC, SBATs and SWL programs.
Organise regular team meetings and professional development aligned with vocational education.
Develop and maintain policies and procedures related to vocational education.
Ensure programs reflect best practice, current research, and industry needs.
Curriculum & Assessment
Lead curriculum design and review for VET, VM, and VPC subjects.
Ensure compliance with VCAA, VRQA, and RTO standards.
Ensure assessment practices meet VCAA and internal standards, including scored and non-scored VET programs.
Support moderation, reporting, and validation processes across vocational subjects.
Embed inclusive, inquiry-based, and culturally responsive teaching practices.
Collaboration and Partnerships
Work closely with the Careers and Pathways Coordinator to align programs with state and national priorities.
Build and maintain strong relationships with RTOs, employers, and external agencies.
Engage families and staff in supporting student success in vocational learning.
Organise career expos, information sessions, and industry engagement activities.
Student Support and Administration
Provide individualised pathway planning and career counselling for students in Years 9–12.
Monitor student attendance, progress, and wellbeing, identifying and supporting those at risk.
Manage enrolments, re-enrolments, and compliance documentation including VASS data and USIs.
Coordinate the distribution of certificates and statements of attainment.
Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) and SBATs
Promote and facilitate SWL and SBAT opportunities.
Liaise with LLENs, employers, and support networks to arrange placements.
Ensure all documentation is completed, signed, and distributed appropriately.
Monitor placement safety and compliance, including Safe@Work modules.
Essential Selection Criteria
Current registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT).
Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40122).
Experience in vocational education or within an RTO setting.
Strong understanding of VET frameworks including VETiS, SBATs, VCE VM, VPC, VASS, and relevant compliance standards.
Proven ability to lead and manage vocational programs in a secondary school context.
Excellent organisational, administrative, and time management skills.
High-level interpersonal and communication skills.
Demonstrated capacity to support students, families, and staff in vocational and applied learning pathways.
