About the Role

The GIICA Accountant plays a vital role in supporting the financial strategy and operations of the Authority. This position supports the development of financial advice, analysis and information to assist the Manager Financial Planning and Analysis, key internal and external stakeholders and the wider Finance team.

Your role as Accountant will support the organisation in meeting its various external financial reporting obligations, in conjunction with supporting internal stakeholders on operational finance matters. Additionally, as a member of a small but agile Finance team, you will provide support in preparing both financial statements and management reporting (including internal/external auditor liaison); support the development of budgets and forecasts and assist with month-end and year-end close processes.

You also play a key role in maintaining internal financial controls and supporting finance-related projects, contributing to the overall success of the Authority’s financial management.

The role is fast paced and operates in a complex, high-profile and often changing environment. In joining the Authority, you will join a team of hard-working professionals, dedicated to preparing Queensland for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The salary on offer is between $115,000-$125,000 per annum commensurate with experience, plus 12.75% superannuation. This is a full-time, maximum-term role for 5 years (with possibility of extension).

The Games Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority (GIICA) is laying the foundations for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games and beyond.

Hosting the world’s largest sporting celebration is a privilege that will define Queensland for the rest of the 21st century, driving economic growth, sustainability, connectivity, and healthier, more-inclusive communities.

GIICA will deliver 17 new and upgraded venues, from Brisbane’s Main Stadium to key sporting infrastructure across the state.

About your Responsibilities

Provide advice, analysis and information to assist in supporting in the delivery of the long-term financial strategy of the Authority.

Assist in the development of budgets and forecasts in line with guidelines and strategies to facilitate the allocation of capital and operational budgets for the Authority.

Assist with GIICA’s accounting and financial reporting requirements and obligations including, but not limited to end of month processes, financial statement preparation and preparation of workpapers or coordination activities relating to external and internal audits.

Provide support with management and maintenance of the General Ledger and Chart of Accounts.

Assist in the implementation of financial internal controls, including general ledger account reconciliations and compliance with finance and procurement policies.

Support the authority’s involvement in the State budget process, mainly relating to TriData submissions, State budget papers and treasury management.

Support the delivery of month end financial and management reporting and analysis to support management as well as key external stakeholders.

Support in the maintenance of budget guidelines and strategies to manage the allocation of the operational and capital budgets of the Authority.

Support/collaboration in finance related projects.

About You

Possession of a relevant tertiary qualification in accounting, commerce or a related discipline.

Membership to Chartered Accountants in Australia and New Zealand (CA) or Certified Practicing Accountants (CPA) or working towards this certification would be highly regarded.

Demonstrated experience in management and financial accounting, financial management practices and systems, legislative frameworks and policy. Experience in a highly governed environment would be well regarded.

Demonstrated ability to analyse data, problem solve and identify discrepancies within financial data.

Excellent interpersonal, communication and analytical skills.

Agile and flexible, with the ability to be highly responsive in a fast-paced and changing environment.

A team player, who works collaboratively with others to contribute to upholding a positive workplace culture.
