About Our Client
A leading drill and blast contractor has been engaged to support a mineral sands project in South Australia's Murray Mallee region. The project focuses on the safe and efficient extraction of heavy minerals including zircon, rutile, and ilmenite from the Mercunda strandline. The operation is supported by a client with previous experience at the site and a strong commitment to sustainable mining and progressive land rehabilitation.
What You Will Be Doing
This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for the safe and effective delivery of all drill and blast activities. Duties include:
Planning, coordinating, and overseeing all drill and blast operations from scheduling through to execution
Managing project scope, budget, resources, and consumables
Supervising field crews and contractors, providing on-site leadership and mentoring
Developing and optimising blast designs and patterns
Ensuring full compliance with safety, environmental and legislative requirements
Conducting inspections, risk assessments, and managing incident responses
Liaising with site stakeholders, including planners, clients and geotechnical teams
Monitoring performance and production data to identify and implement improvements
Preparing regular reporting on progress, safety, cost, and compliance
What You Will Need
Proven experience in drill and blast project management, ideally within open cut or mineral sands operations
Relevant tertiary education in mining engineering, blasting operations, or a related field
Strong technical knowledge of blast design, pattern layouts, charging, and compliance requirements
Demonstrated leadership capability, with experience supervising on-site teams and coordinating contractors
Strong understanding of mine safety systems, environmental obligations, and regulatory frameworks
Effective budget, resource, and equipment planning skills
Experience in stakeholder engagement with clients, engineers, and regulatory bodies
Analytical skills to track performance, improve productivity and optimise outcomes
High-level communication and reporting skills, both verbal and written
Current driver’s licence
