Position Overview

The Leading Hand Landscaper is responsible for coordinating and overseeing on-site landscaping works, ensuring quality standards are met, and guiding a small team of landscapers and apprentices. This hands-on role involves both leadership and physical labour, working closely with site supervisors to complete residential or commercial landscaping projects on time and to specification.

Key Responsibilities:

Supervise and lead a team of landscape workers on-site

Interpret and work from landscape plans and drawings

Coordinate daily tasks and allocate duties to team members

Operate machinery and tools (e.g. excavators, skid steers, compactors, power tools)

Install irrigation systems, paving, decking, retaining walls, turf, plants, mulch and other landscape features

Ensure compliance with safety procedures and company policies

Liaise with clients, suppliers and contractors as required

Monitor quality of work and troubleshoot issues on-site

Maintain site cleanliness and organisation

Assist with ordering and receiving materials

Report project progress to Director

Skills & Experience Required:

Minimum 3–5 years’ landscaping experience (structural and soft landscaping)

Ability to read and interpret landscape construction plans

Strong communication and team coordination skills

Experience with landscape machinery

White Card (Construction Induction Card)

Manual Driver’s Licence (HR licence an advantage)

Cert III in Landscape Construction (preferred but not essential)

First Aid (desirable)
