About the position:
Through the effective coordination of the Youth Development Program in Mullewa, the Mullewa Youth Development Officer plays a critical role in leading the youth development team to run the Mullewa Youth Centre, ensuring that young people attending the Youth Centre are offered appropriate life skills development opportunities, recreational activities and training options, as well as ensuring strong referral mechanisms are in place.
This position is offered as a fixed term, full time opportunity to July 2026, with possibility of extension, to provide parental leave coverage.
Key accountabilities:
· Oversee the day-to-day operations and management of the Mullewa Youth Centre & Youth Precinct in accordance with the City’s requirements and in accordance with contractual requirements determined by the funding body for the centre.
· Ensure the operation of the Youth Centre as per opening hours.
· Supervise fixed-term and casual staff, trainees, and volunteers to deliver youth engagement and diversionary activities at the Youth Centre and at other recreation venues across the City of Greater Geraldton.
· Attend interagency meetings and liaise with key stakeholders to ensure referrals to support services occur regularly and to ensure an emphasis on sharing critical information regarding youth service provision in Mullewa.
· Research, develop, implement, and report on a range of diversionary and engagement programs and activities for youth at risk.

Position requirements:
We are seeking a candidate with proven experience in youth development, ideally supported by a qualification in Youth Work, Social Work or Community Services. However, we recognise that valuable skills and knowledge are gained through lived experience and practical work, so applicants without formal qualifications but with strong, relevant experience are encouraged to apply.
The ability to communicate effectively and build rapport with young people from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, including Aboriginal youth is essential. Experience in developing and delivering diversionary programs and activities for at risk youth will be highly regarded.
Completion of a pre-employment medical including alcohol and other substances testing is required of all positions at the City.
Remuneration and benefits:
The Mullewa Youth Development Officer position has a salary starting from $89,127 per annum or $45.1046 per hour, offered dependent on knowledge, skills, experience and qualifications.
