About the role
2 year fixed term opportunity primarily based at our Epping Depot.
The Safety & Environment Specialist provides Safety & Environment assistance to MTM's Rolling Stock Maintenance Facilities and Sidings. The Rolling Stock Safety & Environment Specialist reports to Julie Thomson into the Safety & Environment Manager.

Key responsibilities include:
- Provide service and support to line and site management to control of risks and implement opportunities for improvement in all Workplace Health Safety and Environmental matters.
- Monitor INX for responsible sites ensuring actions and investigations are completed by due dates.
- Lead and facilitate OH&S investigations, with site management assistance where required to ensure the root causes and corrective actions are identified.
- Coordinate safety investigations, assign responsibility and ensuring investigations are completed in a timely manner.
- Conduct regular workplace safety and environment inspections at sites and sidings under responsibility and enter finding in INX.
- Conduct and participate in internal audits for Quality, WHS, and Environment and enter findings in INX.
- Assist in the development and review of risk assessments, plant & equipment safety assessments and safe work instructions.
- Ensure SWMS available and in date for all high-risk tasks completed at depots under responsibility.
- Assist with the identification of injury/ accident high risk areas pertaining to routine maintenance tasks, proposing prevention strategies/ solutions to reduce the risks and severity
About you
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Tertiary Qualification in Health and Safety or minimum Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety.
- ICAM Investigation qualification.
- Proven work experience within a SEQ, QSE, HSEQ role or equivalent.
- Experience working within a rail/transportation or Infrastructure environment or similar.
- Understanding of Quality, Safety, Environment and Rail Safety management systems.
- Internal Audit qualification.
- Proficient in workplace data analysis and reporting.
- Strong written and verbal communicator, effective across all staff and management levels.
- Ability to identify and analyse risks and make corrective actions.
- Skilled in negotiating, persuading, and influencing stakeholders at all levels.
- Able to manage priorities and meet strict deadlines.
- Comfortable working with technical information and translating it for diverse audiences.
