The Role
An excellent opportunity now exists for a Senior Technical Specialist – Renewables to join our experienced and successful corporation based in Darwin, Northern Territory. Reporting to Manager – Remote Power Service, you will conduct high-level technical and strategic investigations; prepare specifications, supervise routine specific and routine contracts; and provide technical and administrative advice related to the operation and maintenance of power distribution networks, diesel generation systems, and utility-scale renewable power generation systems in Indigenous communities across the Northern Territory. Willingness and ability to travel to remote communities at short notice via road or light aircraft.

Key responsibilities

Provide high level technical advice and practical experience in the testing and fault finding of complex protection schemes including associated secondary circuits, relays and IED’s.

Manage install and testing and teams in the safe and efficient commissioning of renewable electrical plant including the secondary systems associated with key assets such as, battery energy storage systems, large solar systems, switch boards, instrument transformers and power transformers.

Establish testing procedures in line with local and national standards prior to initial energisation.

Take a leading role in building the capability of the team by mentoring staff and identifying areas of need for technical training. Seek to improve and maintain the Corporation’s quality values by documenting processes, procedures and techniques required for undertaking complex technical tasks.

Complete secondary design reviews representing the section as a Subject Matter Expert (SME).

Participate in a rotating on-call roster to respond to faults and to provide remote assistance.

About You
Ideally having minimum 10 years proven experience in generation renewable connections, hold a Diploma of Engineering (or equivalent) or equivalent skills, knowledge and experience in the electrical field with years of knowledge working the generation/ renewables space. Proven experience in leading both the commissioning of assets associated with large scale renewable, isolated generation systems and their protection schemes, including experience building collaborative working relationships with various internal and external stakeholders.

Your capability to work independently to meet deadlines including exercising initiative, problem solving and decision making, with proven track record in achieving results and the ability to prioritise work in accordance with identified risk impacts. Including, demonstrated capability in undertaking complex fault investigations of protection systems with the ability to interpret intricate electrical schematic drawings and complete investigative reports for the key stakeholders. Willingness and ability to travel to remote communities at short notice via road or light aircraft.
