About the Role
The City is seeking an experienced Coastal Engineer, with expertise in coastal monitoring, maintenance and management. The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Management and implementation of the City’s coastal monitoring programme focusing on our vulnerable beaches and coastal structures;
- Management of the City’s Beach Access Renewal Program including management of consultants and contractors for condition assessments, engineering design and construction works;
- Communication and consultation with a range of customers and stakeholders including government departments and agencies, other local governments, academic organisations, members of the public and City staff;
- Management of consultants, contractors and contracts relating to coastal engineering studies and coastal construction works;
- Project management of coastal capital works projects; and
- Leadership of the City’s Undergraduate Coastal Engineer.
About you
As a collaborative member of the Coastal Management team within the Assets Directorate, the position is accountable for the development and management of the City’s Coastal Monitoring Program, Beach Access Renewal Program and activities relating to coastal capital works projects and coastal maintenance operations. The successful appointee must be an adaptable, experienced Coastal Engineer. They must also thrive with working in a very busy and change driven organisation. Applicants must be able to demonstrate through their CV and covering letter that they meet the following capabilities:
- University degree in a relevant discipline such as Coastal Engineering;
- Relevant experience in a similar role, including experience in project management of coastal projects;
- Advanced experience in the efficient utilisation of information systems and technology;
- National Construction Induction Certificate (White Card);
- C class Drivers License;
- Advanced computing, numeracy and literacy skills;
- Advanced organisational skills with the ability to prioritise competing tasks;
- Advanced customer service skills;
- Advanced communication and problem-solving skills;
- Advanced research and analysis skills;
- Advanced negotiation and influencing skills;
- Knowledge of resource planning and budget management;
- Knowledge of project management principles and practices;
- Knowledge of construction practices and methodology; and
- Knowledge of the practical application of work health and safety measures in the workplace including hazard identification in coastal worksites and operations where interaction with members of the public may be reasonably expected to occur.
