Tourism Central Australia (TCA) is the peak regional tourism organisation covering the Central Australia region that encompasses the local government areas of Barkly, Central Desert, MacDonnell, and Alice Springs Town Council. TCA is one of two official Regional Tourism Organisations (RTOs) in the Northern Territory. TCA is a not-for-profit membership-based organisation – it currently employs a range of skilled staff across the region and is governed by a Board of Management.

TCA is responsible for marketing the Central Australian tourism industry, providing member businesses with advice, support and industry insights, operating the Alice Springs, Tennant Creek and Yulara Visitor Information Centre’s, and advocating to Government and stakeholders on behalf of our members for pro-tourism policies and developments.

As a business led organisation, we work in partnership with a wide variety of stakeholders including individuals, businesses, and all levels of government, to benefit the visitor economy in Central Australia. TCA has a membership of under 400 + small, medium, and large sized organisations directly investing in TCA to deliver the work it does to foster growth of the sector and the region.

Position Objectives

The Tourism Business Support Officer is part of a small team focused on managing TCA’s membership, providing tourism operators with business information and support, and help develop the tourism industry in Central Australia. The Tourism Business Support Officer will work directly with TCA members to assist in developing their business capacity and capability and to signpost members in the direction of critical support both internally and externally.

The role seeks to maximise their member benefits and to assist in ensuring the industry grow and develop to maximise opportunities. The role works collaboratively with key stakeholders that provide direct support to tourism operators alongside government and non-government agencies

Internally the role plays an important part in communication within all parts of the organisation to ensure awareness of member activity.

Role and responsibilities

Under the direction and in collaboration with the Membership and Industry Development Manager:

Work directly with tourism operators—both members and non-members—to deliver tailored support

Collaborate with operators to develop digital strategies that enhance visibility and bookings via the Visitor Information Centre and discovercentralaustralia.com.

Identify and engage operators in business development, training, and mentoring opportunities aligned with regional priorities.

Support in the planning and delivery of TCA member events

Travel throughout the Red Centre to provide in-person support and build strong regional connections.

Support businesses in leveraging opportunities to grow visitation, improve referrals, and strengthen their presence within TCA’s ecosystem.

Lead the creation of industry resources, tools, and collateral to support business development.

To assist and support members to achieve the highest benefit from their membership of the organisation

Provide regular reporting to Tourism NT, the TCA Corporate Executive Team, and the TCA Board on program performance and outcomes.

Monitor and track KPIs, budgets, and outcomes of funded programs to ensure delivery aligns with contractual obligations.

Contribute to the Tourism Telegraph e-newsletter and other relevant communication on support measures, training, information and networking opportunities to drive business tourism capability development.

Oversee contracts with consultants and providers engaged to deliver training and industry support services.

Gather feedback from stakeholders to inform program improvements and guide advocacy efforts.

Provide support to the Visitor Centres during busy periods

Other duties as required by the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Management
