Job Description
A Finance Officer within Catholic Education Western Australia (CEWA) is responsible for managing the financial operations of a school, ensuring accurate financial records, and supporting the school’s financial management. This role involves tasks like preparing and maintaining financial records, processing invoices and payments, managing student fees and generating financial reports. The position requires strong financial experience, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a Team.
Essential Skills and Experience
· Commitment to the objectives and ethos of Catholic education.
· Financial Experience: Demonstrated experience in financial management preferably within a school environment. Experience in financial procedures including accounts receivable, accounts payable, preparation of Business Activity Statements, and general ledger processing.
· Accounting Software Proficiency: Experience with financial accounting software, such as AOS, and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel)
· Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for interacting with staff, parents and other stakeholders.
· Demonstrated ability to work independently, to prioritise work, take initiative and meet deadlines.
· Sound knowledge and demonstrated ability of relevant accrual accounting practices.
Key Responsibilities
· Financial Record Keeping and Reporting: Maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records, including bank reconciliations, general journals and fixed asset registers. Preparing monthly financial reports for the Principal and stakeholders.
· Student Fees and Debt Management: Managing student fee collection, processing fee payments and following up on outstanding amounts.
· Accounts Payable and Receivable: Processing invoices, payments and other financial transactions.
· Budget Management: Assisting with budget preparation and monitoring.
· Payroll: Processing payroll for school staff.
· Compliance: Ensuring compliance with relevant financial regulations and CEWA’s financial policies.
Conditions of Employment
· A valid Working with Children’s Check is required.
· Current National Police Check
· Willingness to work towards Accreditation to Work in a Catholic School.
