The office of Lisa Chesters MP is seeking applications for a fulltime non-ongoing (12 months) Electorate Officer A, based in the Member’s electorate office in Bendigo, Victoria.
Electorate Officers play a crucial role assisting members of Parliament to fulfil their duties as elected representatives. Electorate Office staff have a strong feel for the electorate’s character and needs and ensure constituent issues are understood and acted upon.
The key duties of the position include but are not limited to:
· Responding to enquiries from constituents, community organisations and businesses on behalf of the Parliamentarian, including liaising and connecting with government agencies to resolve issues.
· Staffing the front counter for constituent walk-ins and answering constituent phone calls and emails.
· Assisting with community and stakeholder outreach including meeting preparation, event logistics and attendance.
· Assisting with a range of office administrative tasks, including data entry and database management.
The ideal applicant should possess the following skills, qualifications, and experience:
· Strong background in customer service and/or receptionist roles.
· Confident to answer incoming phone calls and in person enquiries.
· Organised and proficient at managing competing priorities.
· Excellent oral and written communication skills with attention to detail.
· Able to engage and communicate with a broad range of people and organisations.
· Understanding of Australia’s political system and parliamentary processes.
Employment conditions:
The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 with conditions outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement 2024-27 which include:
· Fulltime non-ongoing contract for 12 months.
· A commencing salary between $74,537 and $78,911 will be negotiated depending on experience and relevant skills.
· An additional optional allowance of up to $11,610 in recognition of, and as compensation for, reasonable additional hours of work.
· An employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% will be payable.
Applicants should note the following:
· An initial probationary period of three months will apply and may be subject to extension.
· The successful applicant may be required to undergo a National Police History Check.
· Staff may be subject to automatic cessation triggers in accordance with Section 14 of the MOP(S) Act.
· The successful applicant will be required to comply with their obligations under the Behaviour Codes and Standards.
