The Role
Prototype and Test Services (PTS) is responsible for the provision of prototyping capabilities to support the acquisition and sustainment of land materiel. This position is based at the Prototype Engineering Centre, located in Laverton North. PTS is seeking experienced trade staff for interesting work in a unique environment, including CNC Machining, Welding, Sheet Metal Fabrication and Carpentry. Our team comprises a small team of multi-disciplined trades utilising Numerical Control (NC) and Computer Numerical Control (CNC) to fabricate prototypes through subtractive manufacturing.
You will be responsible for mechanical manufacture from conceptual drawings and computer aided design (CAD) models through to delivery of prototypes, space claims and models. Using modern manufacturing technologies including multi-axis CNC mills and lathes, Router and Waterjet Cutter. The breadth of work will give the successful applicant the opportunity to be exposed to a diverse range of developmental opportunities and fabrication techniques.
About our Team
Land Systems Division’s (LSD) mission is to acquire and support capability that enables the ADF to generate and sustain deployable Land power for an integrated force, in peace and war. We aim to be agile, innovative and outcomes-focussed as we collaborate closely with the Services and industry to deliver the latest equipment to maximise ADF performance. The Land Engineering Agency (LEA), within LSD, supports a broad range of projects and Systems Program Offices (SPO) to ensure successful technical outcomes for the acquisition and in-service support of Defence capability.
LEA provides services in engineering, testing, design and development, technical data and configuration management across the Defence Capability Life-Cycle. The Prototype Engineering Centre is the prototyping arm of LEA. Our Ideal Candidate
The ideal person for this role will be CNC experienced, qualified Machinist, Fitter and Turner or Toolmaker, Carpenter, Welder or Sheet Metal Fabricator that seeks variety in their daily work. Someone that is capable of working effectively within a small, multi-functional team, including work not core to their own trade to produce reactive and flexible delivery of a diverse range of prototypes, models, jigs and fixtures to enable speed to delivery of Land Systems Capability development.
The successful candidate will:
- Meet the mandatory qualifications and have experience working as a Machinist / Fitter and Turner/ Toolmaker, Welder, Sheet metal fabricator or Carpenter
- Have knowledge and experience using CNC machinery and or CNC drawing packages (highly desirable)
- Build and sustain positive relationships with team members, actively participate in team work
- Have sound written and oral communication skills
- Have experience working within a Quality Management System (or similar).
