Our Natural Areas team has exciting opportunities for passionate and skilled conservation land management professionals to lead our Bushland Regeneration and Fire Mitigation Teams. In this hands-on leadership role, you will be instrumental in preserving and enhancing Lake Macquarie’s natural assets by supervising on-ground environmental works across bushland reserves and asset protection zones.
You will lead a small team responsible for delivering bush regeneration, and hazard reduction activities in line with relevant hazard reduction certificates, project plans, and environmental controls.
Your key focus areas are,
Prioritise, arrange, and carry out daily work activities, including use of hand tools and small plant items, responding to service requests, and maintaining appropriate work records.
Carry out forward planning and assist the coordinator, with preparation of maintenance programs for each job and update as required.
Provide leadership and guidance to team members to maximise staff performance by coaching, leading and managing staff, role modelling appropriate behaviours and standards and carrying out on the job training.
Support the Coordinator in the efficient operation of the team. This includes ensuring appropriate standards are adhered to, assisting in staff management/ performance discussions and reviews, reviewing, and authorising time sheets, and providing operational input into leave requests.
Ensure that all activities including plant operation are undertaken to the required legislative standards, practices and standard operating procedures, including WHS and environmental controls.

You’re known for your practical, solution-focused mindset and you thrive in the field, making smart decisions under pressure, and encouraging safe, ecologically sustainable approaches to every task.
With your can-do attitude and strong organisational skills, you confidently plan, prioritise and coordinate day-to-day activities to ensure the delivery of a robust and high-quality program of works, on time, and within scope.
What you will bring:
Minimum Certificate III in Natural Resource Management, Conservation and Land Management, Bush Regeneration, Bush Fire Mitigation, or other relevant field and/ or extensive commensurate demonstrated experience in Conservation and Land Management including Bush Regeneration and Bush Fire Mitigation
Demonstrated ability to work unsupervised, and lead and supervise a team including contractors to carry out works safely, to the required time frames and quality standards.
Proven leadership, supervisory, interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to read, understand and comply with hazard reduction certificates, project plans and environmental controls by use of a combination of bush regeneration and land management techniques.
Experience in bush regeneration including the use of hand tools, small plant and other machinery relevant to the role.
