For this position, it is a genuine occupational requirement that it be filled by an Aboriginal person, or a Torres Strait Islander person as set out in Section 7 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 for the purposes contained in Section 25 of that Act.
About the Role
- Partner closely with and provide strategic advice, guidance and support to the Health Service Chief Executive (HSCE), the Children's Health Queensland Board (CHQ Board), members of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and various leaders across CHQ on matters relating to equitable health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people which prioritises their cultural, emotional and spiritual needs across the continuum of care.
- Establish strong partnerships with state and national government agencies to advance the health and wellbeing agenda for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people.
- Be the executive sponsor for the Health Equity Strategy Steering Committee and assume responsibility for the functions of this group and guide its progress.
- Provide guidance to leaders across three critical domains; strategic, operational and research which advances paediatric Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health outcomes.
- Create opportunity for CHQ staff and leaders to engage closely with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
- Develop, nurture and maintain strong relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
- Role model CHQ's values and ensure the implementation of exemplary standards of leadership and management across the organisation which result in high levels of staff engagement and effective and efficient use of all resources.
- Actively participate in a working environment supporting quality human resources management practices including employment equity, anti-discrimination, work, health and safety, and ethical behaviour.
- Develop a positive culture within your division which encourages and recognises high performance, builds leadership capabilities, and supports staff to maximise their health and wellbeing.
- Provide knowledge of the current organisational relationships and how CHQ interacts both strategically and operationally with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health leadership across the Queensland Health system.
- Provide strategic advice regarding statewide policy and directions for Queensland through routinely working in partnership with the Chief First Nations Health Officer, First Nations Health, Department of Health.
