About the role

  • Provide high level leadership and management of Townsville HHS capital projects in accordance with approved project management methodologies in order to achieve project deliverables and service outcomes.
  • Develop and implement standardised methodologies for the development and delivery of capital projects across Townsville HHS in the context of the legislative requirements applicable to a statutory authority.
  • Represent Townsville HHS's interests with regard to major capital projects delivered by the Department of Health on Townsville HHS sites.
  • Provide expertise and consistent advice and support to the Townsville HHS executive and senior leadership teams including facility executive in relation to the current and proposed capital works program.
  • Develop key working relationships with senior executives, facility executives and directors, clinical service planners and asset managers to optimise the delivery of new and renewed facilities to ensure the best use of sustainable assets and infrastructure both now and in the future.
  • Provide expertise to ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within approved budgets and consistent with relevant legislation standards and policy directions of Queensland Health.
  • Proactively identify and manage complex situations and project risks across the capital project portfolio and develop responses and preventative solutions to issues and risks in consultation with key stakeholders.

Role requirements

  • Significant prior experience in the management and delivery of large capital projects within the hospital and health sector is essential.
  • This position is located at the Townsville University Hospital and may be required to travel throughout the Townsville HHS catchment area and to Brisbane.

Highly desirable

  • Experience in working with a wide range of stakeholders in the implementation of change.
  • Professional registration or membership with an appropriate authority.
  • A relevant qualification (eg. engineering, project management and/or asset/facility management).

Skills and experience

  • High-level ability to lead and manage an Infrastructure business unit in the delivery of a capital works program.
  • High-level knowledge of program and project management methodologies in addition to demonstrated high level experience in leading and designing small to large scale complex projects within a health infrastructure service delivery environment (or similar).
  • High-level experience in preparing, monitoring, evaluating and reporting on complex program/project budgets.
  • Ability to lead and manage diverse consultants, contractors and multi-disciplinary project teams in the delivery of contemporary public-sector capital projects.
