SUMMARY
Excellent opportunity for an Employment Lawyer with 7+ years’ experience to join a leading Sydney-based University. This full-time Senior Legal Counsel role provides strategic legal advice and supports the university's compliance and operational decision-making.

THE ROLE

Advise on employment and industrial matters, including staff conduct, performance management, disciplinary process, and grievance.

Provide legal guidance on student conduct, academic integrity, and compliance with relevant legislation.

Manage anti-discrimination and human rights complaints involving staff and students.

Draft, review, and negotiate legal documents, including employment agreements and compliance policies.

Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify and mitigate legal risks across the university.

Draft, review, and negotiate legal documents and agreements, including employment-related agreements.

Supervise and mentor junior staff when required.

We know the General Counsel and the team well and can vouch for the culture and the work.

ABOUT YOU
Experienced legal professional with a background in employment law and regulatory compliance, ideally with higher education sector experience. The candidate must provide practical legal advice and balance competing demands.

At least 7 years’ post-admission legal practice focusing on employment law.

Demonstrated expertise in employment law. Experience in administrative law will also be highly regarded.

Knowledge of anti-discrimination and human rights law, with experience handling related complaints and proceedings.

Proven analytical and problem-solving skills, high accuracy, and responsiveness under pressure.

Effective written and verbal communication skills for conveying complex legal concepts to diverse audiences.

Ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders and a commitment to ethical practice.
