The Opportunity

At the Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC), we are accelerating Australian research and innovation by driving excellence in the creation, analysis and retention of high-quality data assets.

We partner with the research community and industry to build leading-edge digital research infrastructure to provide Australian researchers with competitive advantage through data.

This isn't just a standard accounting role working at a single university. Our financials are complex, span 10 universities and multiple financial systems. At ARDC we also run our own company structure which sits above this complex multi University structure.

To succeed in this role you will need to bring your passion for financial reporting, analysis, and providing strategic advice to this role and thrive in a dynamic environment where your expertise can make a real impact. This could be the perfect opportunity for you!

As a Finance Reporting Analyst, you'll be a key player in the ARDC’s Finance Team, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements and financial governance policies. You'll provide invaluable support in developing business proposals and managing risks, while gaining a deep understanding of our operations. You'll work closely with the ARDC Finance Manager, acting as a vital link between our organisation and its partners.

Take responsibility for:

  • Financial Management: Oversee budgeting, planning, forecasting, and reporting to meet our business needs.
  • Strategic Advice: Provide expert advice to inform financial capacity, operating performance, and business growth.
  • Continuous Improvement: Contribute to the enhancement of business practices, operational processes, and service delivery.
  • Relationship Building: Maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including the CEO and Senior Leadership Team.
  • Reporting and Analysis: Generate reports, analyse data, and make strategic recommendations to drive business success.
  • Month-End Processes: Assist in month-end, quarter-end, and year-end processes, including financial accounts and reconciliations.
  • Management Accounting: Deliver a broad range of management accounting services and analysis.
  • Project Acquittals: Organise financial acquittals for funded projects, ensuring compliance with funding rules and regulations.

Success in the role will need your:

  • Education/Qualifications: Postgraduate qualifications in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or similar discipline, and CA/CPA designation.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Expertise in applying accounting standards, developing complex budgets, and providing strategic financial advice.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Superior communication skills to build relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong numeracy, analytical, and problem-solving abilities to deliver innovative solutions.
  • Organisational Skills: Excellent time management and attention to detail to meet deadlines and maintain accuracy.
  • Team Player: Ability to work effectively as part of a team and exercise independence, judgment, and initiative.

You will bring:

  • Your strong initiative and problem solving skills and be able to work independently
  • The ability to absorb and process complex information from multiple data sources
  • Your strong technical aptitude and ideally experience across the private sector, Not-For-Profit (NFP) and higher education.
