The Department of Families, Seniors, Disability Services and Child Safety has permanent Child Safety Officer (CSO) roles available across Queensland, ensuring the protection and welfare of children and youth. Graduates and career changers with experience or interest in being a social worker, youth worker, counsellor, or similar – this role is for you!
What does being a CSO mean?
You will be a member of a collaborative team specialising in an area of child safety, including but not limited to:
Investigation, Intake, and Assessment
Ongoing Intervention, Intervention with Parental Agreement, and Reunification
Short or Long-term Orders
Placement Services
You’ll advocate for children and young people’s safety and wellbeing under the Child Protection Act 1999, with duties including:
Casework, planning, risk assessment and complex case management
Child, family, and carer visits
Attending court and writing affidavits
Working with partner agencies and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community organisations
You’ll provide culturally respectful and appropriate support to families from diverse backgrounds.

Starting salary in line with PO3 circa $101,286 - $110,366

What you need to be a CSO
To join us as a CSO you will need:
An Australian Driver’s License, and the legal right to work in Australia
A Bachelor Degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, or in a related field with further study or work experience – please click here for more details
Knowledge of the Child Protection Act 1999, and the ability to write case notes
Strong communication and relationship-building skills
