Excellent General Counsel opportunity for an experienced Energy Infrastructure Lawyer at this leading multinational, with significant growth plans for its operations in Australia.

While its presence in Australia is currently small, it has big plans for its operations here.

With an emphasis on decarbonising power supplies, the company is set to continue its global growth.

THE ROLE

Spearheading the establishment and oversight of compliance initiatives in Australia.

Initially, the role will be sole legal counsel, but plans are to expand the team as the business grows in Australia.

Based in the Sydney CBD

You will be the sole legal counsel and support the business with all its legal requirements, from business-as-usual to strategic executive level.

Negotiate critical contracts with large utility companies and government departments with sophisticated in-house legal teams. As an extension of the negotiation, your commercial drafting skills should also be exceptional.

To effectively negotiate with their customers, you should understand the company’s products and services and the regulatory environment in which its customers operate.

Collaborating with sales, operations, procurement, quality, and other key teams, offering guidance on legal issues and associated risks.

Reporting to the Global General Counsel, an Australian expat living overseas. I have known the General Counsel for many years; he is an exceptional lawyer and a great person.

You will work closely with and partner with the Sales Team and attend meetings and negotiations with them. You will share the Sales Team’s desire to get the deals over the line.

Providing assistance on strategic, operational, and procurement projects for departments.

Managing corporate governance, employment, and compliance, including training, across Australian operations.

The Company currently uses external lawyers for all its legal requirements. They have created a set of basic templates and legal structures to help you start.

WHAT THEY SEEK:-

Australian-qualified lawyer with an unrestricted practising certificate living in Sydney,

Energy infrastructure and/or Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) is highly valued.

Minimum of 10 years’ experience in commercial contract negotiations, strategic risk management, and regulatory compliance, with a track record of dealing with C-suite executives.

The ability to work cross-culturally with Asian and European businesses.

Maturity and discipline to work semi-autonomously.

IT and technology skills to allow seamless collaboration across team members

An understanding of Australian energy regulation would be useful, but not essential.

The ability to work collaboratively and in partnership with the executive and sales team.

SALARY:

$280K inc super + up to $23K bonus. This organisation has global salary banding, and it cannot be increased this financial year.
