Financial Systems and Operations Branch within Defence Finance Group is calling for applications from talented individuals to provide technical and leadership expertise, and exceptional customer service in their Financial Operations Management area.
You will play a pivotal role in managing day-to-day operations in a geographically dispersed team across SA, VIC and QLD. You will also manage change and influence behaviours to promote a supportive and inclusive culture as Defence Finance undergoes reform.
The responsibilities of a Site Lead are to provide leadership and direction to an operational team, including coordinating and managing workflows; strategic work analysis, motivating, coaching and influencing staff, including managing performance.
You will provide exemplary customer service to the whole of Defence on complex financial operations issues and technical enquiries, while ensuring service level standards are achieved.
Financial Systems and Operations provides support to the whole of Defence. This may necessitate variable start and finish times to meet business outcomes within our bandwidth.

Accounts Payable is a critical function within the finance department responsible for managing Defence invoices. The team plays a vital role in ensuring supplier invoices are processed accurately and paid on time, while ensuring adherence to government policies, contract terms and helping maintain strong supplier relationships.

Our Ideal Candidate
Our Ideal candidates for Financial Systems and Operations will:
- Supervise and coordinate completion of activities in support of Accounts Payable within Defence.
- Supervise, lead, mentor and coach team members in conjunction with the EL and other APS6 team lead to achieve a fully cross-skilled and innovative workforce.
- Assist with strategic planning.
- Contribute towards identifying and implementing business process improvements.
- Be highly committed to customer service, providing comprehensive solutions in a fast-paced environment.
- Be willing to learn and utilise technical expertise in a complex and changing financial operational landscape.
- Provide strategic direction to shape team outcomes to meet the needs and priorities of the organisation and be accountable for leading the day to day operations.
- Have the ability for analysing work on hand and work collaboratively with fellow APS 6 to ensure a united approach to priorities in managing day to day work allocations.
- Contribute to reporting on completed work and on hand workload.
- Have the ability to build and sustain positive customer relationships and exercise good judgement in escalating issues to more senior leaders.
- Provide an innovative approach for the development of operational procedures, policies and processes.
- Is passionate about finance and has a good understanding of the current Government Finance landscape.
