IA Consulting is partnering with a reputable client rapidly expanding into the Australian heavy industry, electrical and renewable operations to recruit an Executive Director. This role can be based in any state/territory capital across Australia. The Executive Director will be hands-on executing day-to-day operations, commercially savvy and own both strategic and operational leadership reporting to the newly appointed CEO.

The role

The client is looking to be a leader in electrical operations across the heavy industries (substations, water treatment, >100 MW generation systems), renewable energy (solar and wind energy) and mining areas and are looking for a leader to:

Bring multiple functional areas to work cohesively – building quotations for work orders and tenders, delivery, People & Culture (HR), compliance and finance functions

Use strategic thinking, structure and systems to drive high performance

Coach, mentor, build capability – e.g. High-voltage design, Battery Energy Storage Systems, Advanced Process Control for heavy industry.

Combine team leadership, strategy and business process optimization to deliver efficiencies and increase profit margin.

Candidate profile

At least 15 years technical and/or people leadership experience in Electrical Sector. Executive leadership desirable.

A strong grounding in electrical, renewable energy and heavy industry sectors while demonstrating a strong business acumen.

Demonstrated experience with field service and jobs/task management systems and financial management systems

You will have a track record in establishing and optimizing financial, quoting/procurement, compliance and service delivery in the Electrical sector

Previous experience as an Operations Executive and/or Project Director in Electrical Sector

Hands-on experience in audit readiness for ISO 45001, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 in the past five years

Strong written, verbal communication skills to build customer and peer relationships

You will be responsible for the following:

Operations and Compliance

Ensure smooth operations across quote preparation, tenders and project management (planning, delivery, and closeout)

Maintain ISO 45001, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 audit certifications in Electrical/Heavy Industry sector and build in audit requirements into processes and systems.

Implement continuous improvement initiatives across systems and process

Oversee use of IT systems (Primavera P6, SimPro, MYOB) to enhance efficiency and visibility

Leadership and Delivery

Develop and implement growth work program

Road map goals into executable projects and oversee delivery

Conduct business performance reviews & reporting to CEO and board

Lead market expansion and positioning across key sectors

Oversee business development activities to ensure alignment with delivery capacity, customer expectations, and growth work program.

Finance, Governance & Risk Management

Track budgets, margins, cash flow, quoting accuracy, and cost controls

Oversee audit, risk, and operational compliance frameworks

Prepare financial reporting and develop insights to support decision-making

Team Leadership and Development

Set clear performance goals, develop a high-performing culture and drive accountability

Mentor staff upskilling from residential/commercial electrical to heavy industry project delivery

Lead recruitment, onboarding, and capability-building for a growing team
